Post Care for Temporary Crowns or Bridges

You have just received a plastic restoration for a short period of time. The color, shape, and size of the temporary restoration does not resemble the final restoration.

A few comments about this temporary restoration will be helpful to you.

Chewing

  • The temporary cement requires about 30 minutes to set. Please do not chew during this period of time.
  • Temporary restorations are not strong. They may break or come off occasionally. If so, call us and we will replace them. If you are not able to contact us, replace the temporary on your tooth with some Vaseline or toothpaste to hold it in place. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE TEMPORARY RESTORATION OUT OF YOUR MOUTH, BECAUSE THE TEETH WILL MOVE AND THE FINAL RESTORATION WILL NOT FIT.
  • Certain foods will stick to the temporary restoration. This will not happen with the permanent porcelain or gold restoration.

Tooth Sensitivity

Temporary restorations may leak saliva or food onto the tooth. Sensitivity to cold, hot, or sweetness is common. This will not be the case with your final restorations.
